Yi-Chen LEE

Born and nurtured in Taiwan, Yi-Chen LEE carries a profound visual sensitivity shaped by his journey from journalism at Shih Hsin University to a master’s in photography at Spéos Paris Photographic Institute. His acclaimed series Magnified entered the permanent collection of the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts, Japan (2020), marking a milestone in his evolving artistic path.

Since 2018, Yi-Chen has immersed himself in the heart of Paris, embracing photography as the “8th art,” a language through which he deepens both aesthetic intuition and conceptual inquiry. While his lens captures the pulse of social movements, it also explores the intangible currents beneath identity, perception, and cultural narrative.

Yi-Chen’s photography transcends mere representation — it is an evocative meditation on humanity, a deliberate tension between the experimental and the familiar, the abstract and the tangible. His images serve as visual testimonies that question stereotypes and challenge the frameworks of belonging.

A self-taught storyteller in his early years, Yi-Chen’s documentary roots trace back to the 2009 Summer Deaflympics, a formative experience that preceded an internship at Taiwan’s Central News Agency. He chronicled pivotal political moments — from the 2010 and 2014 New Taipei mayoral elections to the 2016 presidential campaign — and served as the official photographer for New Taipei City Government (2012–2017), blending journalistic rigor with artistic vision.
